Homemade Tortilla Recipe

Home-made Tortillas makes good wraps either sweet or savoury. Sometimes, you can make these like thin crust pizza and top it with fillings and serve. These Mexican flat breads are simply delicious with its fillings!!!

All Purpose Flour - 1 cup, heaped
Salt - 1/2 tsp
Baking Powder - 1 tsp
Olive Oil - 1 + 1 tbsp
Warm Water - required for soft,smooth and firm dough

Method of Preparation:

1. In a wide bowl or dough maker, add flour, salt and baking powder. Mix thoroughly or blend once. Add 1 tbsp of olive oil and mix well. Add warm water little by little to form a smooth dough.
2. Once dough is formed, add 1 tbsp of olive oil and mix well. Set aside the dough covered with damp cloth for 15 minutes.
3. Transfer the dough to floured working surface, divide the dough into equal portions. Roll each piece into thin tortillas.
4. Heat pan in High and put the rolled tortilla for 30 seconds and then the other side for 30 seconds. Once it fluffs up, remove and cook the rest.

  • You can make this with wheat flour too. 
  • The dough should be soft and not sticky or tight.
  • The tortillas can be kept well in an air tight container at room temperature for a day and lasts for a month when freezed. When freezing, store tortillas separated by parchment paper in a freezer zipper bag.
