Kara Pori or Spicy Kara Pori is a guilt free snack which can be prepared with less oil or no oil at all. It is a easy to prepare carry snack during travel and to munch on while playing cards or watching tv when raining heavily outside!!! Mom makes this when ever we trip to some hill stations where we stay in boutique resorts and play indoors and the climate tempting us to eat something spicy and crispy!!!
The roasted peanuts with a blend of garlic flavour and the curd chilli with the crispy puffed rice coated with the salt and spice is just an amazing snack!!!

In a wide pan, heat oil and add the puffed rice. Add turmeric powder and mix well til it gets coated and turns crispy. Transfer to a container. In the same pan, heat oil and add dry red chilli or curd chillies, peanuts, fried gram, crushed garlic pods, curry leaves, red chilli powder and salt. Fry them in low flame for few minutes or till they get roasted well. Transfer to the puffed rice container and shake and mix well so the masala's coat the puffed rice well.
Store in an air tight container and enjoy the guilt free snack with coffee or tea!!!
Notes:
- You can also add chopped cashew-nuts to the mix.
- Adjust the quantity of garlic to suit your taste. Adding crushed garlic without peeling adds a nice flavour.
- Adding fried gram is optional.
- I used red chilli as I didn't have stock of curd chillies. Curd chillies is the best in taste compared to red chillies.
