Soya Chunks Curry Recipe | Easy Side Dish Recipes

Another favourite food I grew eating from my mom's kitchen is soya chunks recipes. Amma has few recipes which I could have more and more. Now, I have started exploring new recipe with soya chunks and this recipe is tried from Pakashastra though I have adjusted the recipe to suit for my family. 
SOYA CHUNKS CURRY RECIPE

Preparation Time: 10 minutes Cooking Time: 30 minutes Serves: 6
Ingredients:

Soya Chunk - 1 cup
Cloves - 2
Cinnamon - 1
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli Powder - 1 tbsp
Coriander Powder - 2 tbsp
Garam Masala - 1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Curd - 1/2 cup
Water - 1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tbsp

Roast and grind to a fine paste:
Onion - 2, finely chopped
Garlic - 6
Oil - 2 tsp

Grated Coconut - 4 tbsp(Dry Roast)
Poppy Seeds - 2 tsp
Cashew Nuts - 6

Notes:
  • Adjust the curd as desired. Use fresh curd. 
  • The recipe is medium spicy, adjust spice level to suit your taste.

Method of Preparation:

1. Boiling Soya Chunks: Boil soya chunks in water with salt till it doubles in size. Remove and strain the water. Run through fresh water and then strain the excess water.
2. Using the back of a vessel, gently press the soya chunks to strain the excess water completely. Keep aside. In a pan, dry roast grated coconut and keep aside. In a pan, heat oil and add onions.
3. Add garlic and saute till the onion turns brown. Remove and let it cool. In a food processor or blender, add the dry roasted coconut, poppy seeds, cashew nuts, onion and garlic. Blend to a smooth paste with water required for fine paste.

4. In a kadhai, heat oil and add cloves, cinnamon. Once the spices are roasted and starts realising the flavour, add the paste. Let it cook for a couple of minutes in medium heat. Be careful as it pops out.
5. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt. Let it cook in low heat for few minutes. Keep stirring. Add water. Take curd in a small bowl and whisk well to make a liquid.
6. Add the curd to the mixture at low heat. Keep stirring. Let the curry cook in medium heat for 5-8 minutes. Add soya chunks and cook for 10 minutes in medium heat. Garnish with coriander leaves.


Serving Suggestion:

Best served with roti, dosa's or chappathi.
